About Rattitude Care
Rattitude Care is a free pet rat care and health tracker app for iPhone and Android, made by a rat owner for rat owners.
Why I made it
Rats live only two to three years, and they get sick often. Usually the first sign is weight loss, so owners weigh their rats regularly. But pet apps are made mostly for cats and dogs, so rat owners end up tracking weights in spreadsheets and notes, and keep asking whether there's an app for this.
So I built one, made just for rats. You group your rats by cage, just like at home, and the app walks you through introducing a new rat step by step. Weights go on a chart, and one tap asks AI whether the trend looks worrying. If a rat gets sick, there's a reminder for every dose. And there's a food guide and a cage calculator for the everyday questions.
Meet Bulochka
Bulochka is our rat — a real one, who lives with us. She is also the app's mascot and its AI assistant: ask her anything about feeding, behavior, housing or everyday care, in any of the app's nine languages.
I wanted the app to feel warm and cozy, so there's no AI art. Bulochka is hand-drawn and has a lot of animations — she sleeps, waves, types on a laptop while she thinks about your question, and sips a cocktail on the beach.
How it's made
I started with the Android version and opened an Instagram page at the same time. Most of the people who followed it asked for an iPhone version, so I rebuilt the app with Kotlin Multiplatform: the logic is shared, and each platform has its own native interface. Today Rattitude Care is on the App Store and Google Play, in English, German, Spanish, French, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Ukrainian.
Where the care information comes from
The food guide follows guidance from the veterinary charities RSPCA and PDSA; where they say to avoid a food, the app marks it as toxic, even if other sources disagree. Bulochka is an AI and can make mistakes. Neither she nor the app replaces a veterinarian — if your rat seems unwell, please contact an exotic-pet vet.
